CHARACTERISTICS
The Multi-Stage Chopping system type LIC 200/X/Y is used for generation of Lightning Impulse Chopping waveform (LIC) from 10 kV (single stage) up to 3600 kV.
The chopping system can be used to generate front chopped waveform and tail chopped waveform.
The Multi-Stage Chopping unit is realized with a series connection of vertical spark gaps connected through capacitors. Each stage is triggered.
The capacitance of the Chopping Multi Stage system can be used as basic capacitive load for the impulse generator.
The maximum chopping voltage for each stage is 200 kVIMP.
DESIGN
The Multi-Stage Chopping system is realized with n°2 fiber-glass pipes that will support an insulated ladder where are placed the vertical spark-gaps. Inside one fiber-glass column are placed the voltage control capacitors.
The distance regulation of the spark-gaps is performed through a motor drive controlled from the control desk. Inside the motor drive system is placed a transduced to report to the operator the real distance between the spheres of the spark-gaps.
The starting of the Chopping Multi Stage unit is realized through a power trigger board, controlled from the AMETest Trigger unit.
